Volunteer in West Virginia!
In West Virginia on the Gesundheit! Land, we will be seeking to fill a number of volunteer positions for the 2008 season, running April through October. While we try to have long-term volunteers, this is frequently not possible for people. This year we will try having one or two long-term key people in each role with shorter term people assisting where needed. Minimum commitment is one week. These are work-exchange positions. Gesundheit! provides housing, food, and learning opportunities in exchange for your work.. Expect to work a minimum of 35 hours per week. After January 1, 2008, we will be accepting volunteer applications for the following positions:
- Grounds Maintenance — mowing, weed whacking, and landscaping.
- Carpenters — some new construction, some renovation and reconstruction.
- Technology Maintenance — maintaining computers and upgrading network; maintaining audio/video equipment.
- Gardener and Assistant Organic Gardeners — positions for managers, apprentices and helpers in our organic garden.
- Kitchen Coordinator and Assistant Kitchen Coordinators — several positions to work in our natural foods kitchen and be part of the cook staff for large groups (about 1/3 of season). Kitchen coordinators also interface with Organic Garden staff and have ample opportunity to work in the garden.
- Housekeeping — organizing accommodations for groups and supervising cleaning projects. This is a hands-on position.
